Principal designer, Teddy Karl, Allied ASID, aesthetic is best described as a perfect union of modern and classical influences where spaces are enlivened with a beautiful mixture of color, pattern and texture. His passion for detail is showcased in sophisticated spaces customized to enhance his clients’ lifestyles.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Teddy’s award-winning designs have been featured in numerous publications including Cape Cod and Islands Home, Cape Cod Life, St. Louis Seasons, St. Louis Homes and Lifestyle, At Home and Elegant Homes. He has built a reputation for creating welcoming and luxurious interiors, showcasing both beauty and function.

Before joining The Great Cover-Up, Teddy had been with Sunshine Drapery for eight years. In 2001, he moved back to Massachusetts where he worked for Leonard’s New England, leading its design department. Teddy returned to St. Louis in 2007 as the lead designer for The Great Cover-Up, creating beautiful spaces for countless St. Louis residents.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Teddy studied textile design at Southeastern Massachusetts University (now University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth). Prior to interior design, he owned a custom-clothing boutique, designing exquisite bridal, evening and prom dresses.

Melissa Hummel, Allied ASID, has 20 years’ experience in the interior design industry with a focus on residential interiors. Her classic, timeless designs capture her clients’ vision while providing comfort and beauty for each lifestyle.

Throughout her design projects, Melissa concentrates on color and texture flow, using scaled and proportioned furniture layouts while mixing compatible period pieces to achieve an eclectic harmony. Her interior designs include new construction, renovations, vacation homes, townhomes and condominiums.

Melissa’s clients appreciate her cheerful, energetic nature as well as her creativity and keen eye for detail. In addition to her many local projects, Melissa has put her beautiful design stamp on residences throughout the country and beyond including Florida, Michigan, Colorado, Philadelphia and even Beijing, China.

Rebekah Paz, a St. Louis native, has a passion for interiors and is drawn to eye-catching colors, energizing prints and a variety of textures. As a design associate, she loves to work on new projects and is dedicated to helping clients create beautiful interiors.

Her superior customer service and passion for design make her shine! Rebekah has been with The Great Cover-up for five years and previously worked at Corinne Jones Interior as a design assistant and buyer.

With her broad knowledge of our fabric and wallcovering lines, Rebekah is an expert in helping to find the right style for clients. Her eye for detail also makes her a great resource when helping customers select the perfect home accessory or gift.

When not at The Great Cover-Up, Rebekah is busy with her two young children who inspire and motivate her every day.

Chris Pitzer brings a fresh perspective and valued creativity to the design team. Her excellent customer service skills are a true asset as she is attentive to client needs and works effortlessly to create solutions.

Chris has a love for bright colors, animal prints and chinoiserie and an eye for blending them into her projects, creating a textured, seamless look. She has an affinity toward traditional Georgian, Williamsburg and Charleston design, recreating rich, classic influences in her work.

A valued, longtime employee, Chris has been with The Great Cover-Up since 2004. She has Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dayton with a major in English, minor in history. Prior to her decorating career, she taught high school English and today continues as a substitute grade school teacher.

Shelly WiseShelly Wise

Shelly Wise loves to help translate ideas into reality and helps our design team with projects from inception to completion. As a design assistant, Shelly’s enthusiastic approach combined with administrative and logistical help bring order, direction and high-quality service to clients.

Shelly’s previous positions at Custom Decorators and owner/fabricator of a window treatment business bring a depth of knowledge to fine fabrics, trim and styles. She has a keen interest in helping to make a space just as the client imagined and uses her design experience to help do just that.

Shelly is a tremendous resource for the design team and also helps with scheduling appointments, pricing, ordering, and reviewing orders, among other important design details. She helps to make each and every client experience an enjoyable one!
